A man is in critical condition after being shot while allegedly trying to force his way into a Houston apartment Thursday morning, according to police.
The shooting happened around 2:26 a.m. Oct. 29 at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Bering Drive.
According to investigators, a man was awakened by someone kicking his apartment door and trying to open the handle. His girlfriend and their 1-year-old child were also inside the apartment.
The man asked his girlfriend if she recognized the person outside, but she said she did not know him.
Police said the resident grabbed an AR-15 rifle and opened the door, leading to an argument with the suspect. The resident then shot the man as he allegedly tried to push his way inside.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was listed in critical condition.
Investigators said the suspect was wearing a Halloween costume resembling a character from the movie “Dumb and Dumber,” including an orange suit and a top hat.
Police believe the suspect may live in the same apartment complex and may have been intoxicated after returning from a party and mistakenly gone to the wrong apartment. That information remains under investigation.
Both men are believed to be in their 30s.
